It's Sunday, June 21, at 7:30 PM. Cheap seats are $35 (chances are, that's what Theresa and I will get, as the next tier tickets are $60. Big jump there. And we're not above getting cheap seats. ^^)
Beth, you should see if there's any way you can make it too!

OMG I'M POSTING!!
Survey ganked from kiraxlee , katanisk and wolfyttwisted
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
-Got MARRIED -graduated college -worked three jobs over the course of the year -had to really, truly, fend for myself (ourselves, but it still counts) -lived in a state other than Oklahoma -drove a U-Haul (here's a tip for you. Never drive a U-Haul.) -moved to a place where I knew absolutely no one.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, I really didn't. I gained about ten pounds this year.
-EXERCISE. This is my resolution for the third year running. The first year, I lost 50 pounds. The second year, I gained ten of those back.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin's wife
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope.
5. What countries did you visit?
Texas.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
-A stable job. None of this only keeping a job for three months crap.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 21st. That's when I got married. ^^ Yes, this is a theme for 2008 for me.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Starting a life with my wife in a new location, with new jobs. We're just now really starting to get caught up...here's hoping it lasts!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finding a job in the engineering field and having to settle for retail service work.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
not that I can remember
11. What was the best thing you bought?
umm......I really don't know. I'd have to say the futon we got in our living room. Seriously. Way the hell cheaper than a couch, and REALLY comfortable if you have pillows over the armrests.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My and Theresa's dads. Seriously. I don't know how they put up with our mothers through the wedding preparations.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My and Theresa's mothers. Seriously. I lost so much respect for them because of how they acted this year. I'm just now really getting over it, but it's happening.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Moving and relocation shit. rent. Paying off credit cards. And theresa's student loans. ...Actually, that's where ALL my money went, right there.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
finally graduating college. But now, I'm excited to be going back for my Master's next year. Go figure.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Uh, pretty much the entire 'Best of Journey' album, because this guy in our lab in college ALWAYS played it.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier, I would say. Less stressed, about some things, more stressed about others, but..happier.
ii. thinner or fatter?
Ten pounds fatter.
iii. richer or poorer?
Richer, amazingly, because theresa and i both have jobs. Mine might not be stable, but hers is. We can pay rent and bills, and buy food. That's more than I've ever been able to do on my own before. And I've experienced more life since I got out of college than I did for the whole time I was in it.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Work. Like, real engineering work. The kind that I went to school for.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Umm.........I don't....really know. I generally don't have regrets.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
I woke up, went over to theresa's parents house, we spent the day opening presents and eating, and I read a lot of Dresden Files
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I got married. I was already in love, but it felt like falling in love all over again after it was over.
23. How many one-night stands?
Uh. See above.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
I'm gonna go right ahead and say House.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Um, not really. My hates are pretty constant, and they're more...ideas and types of people than they are actual people.
26. What was the best book you read this year?
The Dresden Files. All of them.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Protomen!!! Rock opera based on the old-school Megaman games.
28. What did you want and get?
Stable enough income to be able to pay rent and get food.
29. What did you want and not get?
A stable enough job to not have to worry about things for a couple years at least.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I'm gonna have to say The Dark Knight.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I...think I pretty much just played Warcraft the whole day.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
if I would have been able to get the job I was going for at the beginning. (Told you there was a theme to my year.)
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Same as it always is. T-shirt and jeans. And for work, polo shirt and khakis. That's all I ever wear.
34. What kept you sane?
My sister, rei_jin . Seriously, i could not have ever done it without her. And by 'it' I mean everything. School, the wedding, life itself.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Vienna Teng. Seriously, she's my 'famous person crush', even though she's not exceptionally famous. Her and Summer Glau.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The war. Seriously, that's been my rant for so long now.
37. Who did you miss?
avery18 . I miss hanging out with you so much sometimes. But we have WoW, and that really does make it better. (Yeah, I know, I resisted getting all sentimental when I saw you over christmas, and I think I did a good job there.)
I MISS YOU TOO fuhenenrei
38. Who was the best new person you met?
That would be katanisk , kiraxlee and wolfyttwisted and all of you crazy people from Daggit.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
That I really need to be content with what I have instead of worrying about what I don't have, sometimes.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
The hardest part isn't finding what we need to be It's being content with who we are Stay who you are

Marble stairs in this cathedral Built by these hands five hundred years before We will make good men better We will make good men better Draw the right hand across the neck Drop the arm down to your side. I hear the voices calling in the night. Thirty-three degrees Accepted right of hypocrisy From this bitter cup we all shall drink Here I am awake, it's 2AM; it's getting late All I know is something isn't right. We will make good men better How can you make good men better? Draw the right hand across the neck Drop the arm down to your side. I hear the shadows calling in the night. Get up, get up, get out The fire's burning now Our bodies burned to ashes They'll be scattered to the forests. Does it ever even faze you That your father's involvement with a cult Nearly killed your first born child? |

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies. 2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. 3. Post them here for everyone to guess. 4. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions. 5. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
-------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Fifth Element, guessed by fuhenenrei
Munro: Any questions? Korben: Yeah. Just one. Why me? I retired six months ago. You remember? Munro: Three reasons. One - as a member of the elite special forces unit of the Federated Army, you are expert in the use of all major weapons & space craft needed for this mission. Two - of all the members of your unit, you were the most highly decorated. Korben: ...and the third one? Munro: Of all the members of your unit, you're the only one left alive.
(2) Reservoir Dogs, guessed by makou
Eddie: C'mon, throw in a buck! Mr. Pink: Uh-uh, I don't tip. Eddie: You don't tip? Mr. Pink: Nah, I don't believe in it. Eddie: You don't believe in tipping? Mr. Blue: You know what these chicks make? They make shit. Mr. Pink: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money that she can quit. Eddie: I don't even know a fucking Jew who'd have the balls to say that. Let me get this straight: you don't ever tip? Mr. Pink: I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job. Mr. Blue: Hey, our girl was nice. Mr. Pink: She was okay. She wasn't anything special. Mr. Blue: What's special? Take you in the back and suck your dick? Eddie: I'd go over twelve percent for that.
(3) Clerks, guessed by raiden_kitsune and kiapurity
Dante: 37! My girlfriend's sucked 37 dicks! Random Customer: In a row?
(4) Snatch
Franky Four Fingers: So the biblical scholars mis-translated the Hebrew word for "young woman" into the Greek word for "virgin," which was a pretty easy mistake to make, since there is only a subtle difference in the spelling. But back then it was the "virgin" that caught people's attention. It's not every day a virgin conceives and bears a son. So you keep that for a couple of hundred years, and the next thing you know, you have the Roman Catholic church.
(5) Boondock Saints. Seriously, why didn't anyone get this one.
Connor: Okay, just cut off as much fat as you can as it goes by and the rule of thumb here is... Rozengirtle: Rule of thumb? Connor: Yeah? Rozengirtle: Do you know where that term comes from? In the early 1900's it was legal for men to beat their wives as long as they used a stick no wider than their thumb. [ Person 1 holds up his thumb and stares at it.] Connor: Can't do much damage with that. Perhaps, it shoulda been the rule of wrist. Ha!
(6) The Prophecy, guessed by little_xaia
Thomas: Some people lose their faith because Heaven shows them too little. But how many people lose their faith because Heaven showed them too much?
(7) Dune, guessed by raiden_kitsune
Paul: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain.
(8) Pitch Black, guessed by little_xaia
Imam: Because you do not believe in God does not mean God does not believe in - . Riddick: Think someone could spend half their life in a slam with a horse bit in their mouth and not believe? Think he could start out in some liquor store trash bin with an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and not believe? Got it all wrong, holy man. I absolutely believe in God... And I absolutely hate the fucker.
(9) Dogma, guessed by fuhenenrei
Metatron: He's got a great sense of humor. Take sex for example. There's nothing funnier than the ridiculous faces you people make mid-coitus. Bethany: Sex is a joke in heaven? Metatron: The way I understand it, it's mostly a joke down here, too.
(10) Serenity, guessed by megaminokonton
Wash: Can I make a suggestion that doesn't involve violence, or is this the wrong crowd for that?
(11) Avatar: The Last Airbender, guessed by fuhenenrei
Sokka: Boomerang! You do always come back!
(12) Garden State
Sam: Hey, I recognize you. Andrew: Oh, did you go to Columbia High? Sam: No, not from high school, from TV. Didn't you play the retarded quarterback? Andrew: Yeah. Sam: Are you really retarded? Andrew: No. Sam: Ooh, great job man! I really thought you were retarded. I mean, you're better than that Corky kid and he's actually retarded. If there was a retarded Oscar you would win, hands down, kick his ass!
(13) Red Vs. Blue, guessed by fuhenenrei
Caboose: Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? Church: Did you just call my girlfriend a cow? Tucker: No, I think he called her a slut.
(14) V For Vendetta, guessed by fuhenenrei
V: Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V. Evey: Are you like a crazy person? V: I am quite sure they will say so.
(15) The Matrix, guessed by fuhenenrei
Morpheus: I see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, that's not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo? Neo: No. Morpheus: Why not? Neo: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life. Morpheus: I know *exactly* what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
(Bonus, to prove your awesomeness if you can answer it) Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, guessed by makou
Kamina: If you don't believe in yourself, then...believe in me, who believes in you!!
EDIT: Okay, out of the three remaining, two of them are kinda difficult. However, one of them I am shocked, SHOCKED I SAY, that nobody has gotten yet.
EDIT #2: Okay, I think I've given you all enough time. Here are the answers to the ones you didn't get.

| Prediction of the Chronology of the "Famine Times", repost, two and a half years later. |
|
|
| 09:33pm 13/05/2007 |

...those of you who have read Dune will get the reference in the title.
I originally posted this two and a half years ago, in early 2005. It still has relevance. Even moreso because this timeline has, of late, been accelerated about half a year.
anyways: __________________________________________________________
Today (2005): Gasoline prices in Oklahoma reach $2.20/gal. This is one dollar per gallon more than they were roughly three years ago. Prices will eventually float between the range of $2.20/gal to $2.50/gal in Oklahoma. (i'm sure it's close to $4.00/gal in some places. i'm just going on the prices here, because i know them) Crude oil is roughly $60/barrel, the highest it has ever been. Result: Travel by car has become a financial inconvenience to the poor and lower middle classes. The stubborn and moderately well-off are not as affected.
2008: Gasoline prices in Oklahoma will reach $3.50/gal to $4.00/gal. Long distance travel by car will be impossible for anyone except the upper middle class and above. Commuting will be a large financial inconvenience, but those who need to do it will do it. There will be a surge in air travel and air shipping, as well as in local public transportation networks.
2012: Because of continuing rising prices, drilling in Alaska will finally be authorized, directly resulting in the ousting of the Democra who will be President at the time. This will be too little, too late as most oil companies will have sold their domestic holdings and will be drilling overseas. Americal will be competing with China for the foreign oil market, and the foreign oil will be drying up. Commuting will be impossible for anyone except the affluent, and long distance travel will be impossible for nearly anyone. Airline prices will start to rise dramatically due to the unavailability of jet fuel. There will be more and more reliance on the internet as a form of socialization, as people will not be able to see their friends and family who do not live in their immediate area.
2015: There will finally be minor breakthroughs in alternate energy sources. People will now be completely dependant on the internet for both work and socialization, because nobody will be able to commute anywhere the public transportation systems do not reach. By now, there has been a complete breakdown in human transportation, resulting in most people using modes of transportation not used since the invention of hte automobile. People will once again be rooted to where they are, as they were before the transportation breakthroughs. The only difference will be the internet, allowing people to telecommute and shop, thus nearly eliminating the need to leave the home. Regions like the midwest will dwindle and die due to lack of transportation (because around here, centers of civilization are freaking few and far between.), though there will still be the cities and other pockets of human civilization.
...alright, so my prediction of "10 years until a complete transportation breakdown" might be a little extreme, but it is still something that we need to prepare for. This is assuming that there are no breakthroughs in alternate energy sources...which is a probability considering there aren't any now. I also intentionally ignored the political aspect, because most people blame gas prices on current foreign policy even though this is inaccurate and in many cases simply not correct. I realize that when things get this bad we will start overtly going to war with people for oil, but since everyone knows we've been covertly doing that for years, that won't really make a difference. ______________________________________________
And viola, it is even more apparant these days that we are overtly going to war with other countries for oil.
I am a goddam prophet. |

“I am, incidentally, Honorary President of the American Humanist Association, having succeeded the late, great science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in that totally functionless capacity. We had a memorial service for Isaac a few years back, and I spoke and said at one point, “Isaac is up in heaven now.” It was the funniest thing I could have said to an audience of humanists. I rolled them in the aisles. It was several minutes before order could be restored. And if I should ever die, God forbid, I hope you will say, “Kurt is up in heaven now.” That’s my favorite joke.”

Dear Hideo Kojima:
I hear (extremely) fleeting rumors that Konami is pressuring you to authorize a port of your amazingly anticipated game, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the ZOMG SNAKE IS OLD, to the Xbox 360. I would strongly urge you to do this, because if this were to happen, it would solidify my resolve to purchase an Xbox 360 and to never ever consider, even in the darkest depths of my tormented soul, purchasing a Playstation 3. In fact, were MGS4 to be released on the Xbox 360, I would officially have no reason whatsoever to play a Playstation 3 (unless FF13 does not suck).
Oh, and, I am eternally grateful for the American release of Boktai DS, er, I mean Lunar Knights. However, I AM STILL WAITING FOR BOKTAI 3 GODDAMMIT.
Much admiration of fucked up plotlines,
Me. |

I already made my big Christmas rant last year. It still applies, and there isn't really anything I can add to it at this point in time. So if you want to see it, go back through my archives and look for it. I don't update much, it's not that far back.
So, for this year, I'll just say,

| Things I am thankful for: |
|
|
| 02:33am 24/11/2006 |
| |
I am thankful for the love of God and the light of the Almighty and the fires of Heaven in our souls.
I am thankful for my Theresa, without whom I would not be where I am today.
I am thankful for my parents, who are quite possibly the best parents in the world, who have never held me back or hurt me or taken out their inadequacies on me.
I am thankful for the people close to me, those I consider my friends and my family, those I truly love.
I am thankful that I live in a country where speaking one's mind is not punishable by death, and for the people fighting to keep it that way.
I am thankful I have what I have, both spiritual and material.
I am thankful for the Revolution, which our parents think was won years ago and which people younger than us think we have not even fought yet.
I am thankful for Rock and Roll, without which the Revolution would not even be possible.
I am thankful for NeverWar, without which I would not have met some of my closest friends and would not have my current perspective on life.
I am thankful for Xenosaga, without which I would have nothing to obsess over and no framework to base some of my beliefs on.
I am thankful that one person can still change the world in a small way, and that many people can still change the world in a big way.
I am thankful for people who listen to me and believe in me. |

Come on, although ya try to discredit Ya still never edit The needle, I'll thread it Radically poetic Standin' with the fury that they had in '66 And like E-Double I'm mad Still knee-deep in the system's shit Hoover, he was a body remover I'll give ya a dose But it'll never come close To the rage built up inside of me Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy
Movements come and movements go Leaders speak, movements cease When their heads are flown 'Cause all these punks Got bullets in their heads Departments of police, the judges, the feds Networks at work, keepin' people calm You know they went after King When he spoke out on Vietnam He turned the power to the have-nots And then came the shot
Wit' poetry, my mind I flex Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin' dat finesse Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up To shake ya up, to break the structure up 'Cause blood still flows in the gutter I'm like takin' photos Mad boy kicks open the shutter Set the groove Then stick and move like I was Cassius Rep the stutter step Then bomb a left upon the fascists Yea, the several federal men Who pulled schemes on the dream And put it to an end Ya better beware Of retribution with mind war 20/20 visions and murals with metaphors Networks at work, keepin' people calm Ya know they murdered X And tried to blame it on Islam He turned the power to the have-nots And then came the shot
What was the price on his head? What was the price on his head!

So. It's been what, since April since I've updated.
Bout time I said something, maybe? More disjointed ramblings to follow. My thoughts are in no logical order.
This is a call to everybody. A wakeup call? Maybe. Call to arms? Maybe that too. What kind of revolution does the world need? There are plenty of protests, armed revolts, and the like around the world, each one making the news for about thirty minutes or so before being promptly forgotten about. Why can't people realize that the world as it is today does not work? That we are killing ourselves through the simple fact that each and every one of us lets someone else do our thinking for us?
That's right. How many of your thoughts and opinions are directly influenced by other people? I'm not just talking about you Republicans here, nor am I just pointing my finger at the Democrats, the religious right-wingers, the eternal doubters, or any specific group of people in general. Quite the opposite, really. I'm pointing my finger at everyone.
Humanity, as a whole, is flawed. Incomplete. Bordering upon useless, and definitely self-destructive. I've posted before about each person's desire to reach out to others through any means possible. Internet, personal communication, anything. I've also said that humans have the intrinsic, however increasingly latent, ability to reach out and connect to each other naturally. Yet...as much as we want to connect with each other, we spend our entire lives pushing each other away.
The revolution we need is a revolution of connectedness, a revolution of awakening. Each person needs to think for themselves, and in doing so, reach out and help their fellow man do the same. People need to stop being jealous, possessive, and distrustful...especially in regards to each other. There will always be personality conflicts, that is the nature of any creature in the universe...however, pointless arguments and pain would be avoided if people just...listened to each other. Were honest with each other. If everyone thought for themselves, were not influenced solely by their outside influences, then everything else would follow. The government would be returned to the people: the system for that is already in place, enough people just need to realize that their thoughts and opinions should not be dominated by the two-party system. Religious conflicts would lessen: people would realize that each religion has in it a grain of the entire truth, and that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith in it, and believe in it with your whole heart.
More than anything...humanity has to believe in itself. Belief carries power...more power than anyone in the world today knows. Everything is based on belief. Every power, every truth, every reality. If enough people believe in something, it will carry power. Belief in humanity will carry with it the salvation of humanity. Belief and trust in each other will eliminate lies, deception, and jealousy.
Everybody, the first step in belief is questioning everything you are told. Question everything so that every truth that you incorporate into your vision of the world is something that you have proven to yourself using all the data that you have collected through your own experience. Questioning leads to belief which itself leads to truth.
Question me. I will be happy to answer. |
